In this article we are going to discuss how to replace the ignition coils of your European cars. Many people don't realise just how much the performance and the reliability of their cars rely on their ignition coils. As you will find out, if your European car has a blown or damaged ignition coil, it can make your car stop at just the wrong time, as it could be running at a lower voltage than is standard.

How do you know what to look for when replacing the ignition coil on your car? The first thing you need to do is to take a look at the car's battery manual. It's important that you follow the exact procedures as the manufacturers recommend. You can do this easily by taking out the key, push the ignition button down and listening to a beep. If there's no beep then you will need to use an ohmmeter to measure the voltage at the terminals. There are different terminologies used but basically you will be able to figure it out once you have done it a few times.

Another reason why some European cars will have worn out ignition coils is because of the way that they are installed. A lot of these cars come with plastic guides that are wrapped around the coil and secured with metal clips. As you remove these clips, you should be able to see a metal clip that connects the two coils together. The problem with these guides is that the coils are connected by tens of thousand of little wires, which is impossible to see using the naked eye.

So, one of the first things that you need to do is to take out the ignition coil and clean it. If you are using a shop coil then it is probably advisable to take it to a local repair centre and have it looked at. If you are using a stock coil, then you can clean it yourself using a very small amount of household detergent. Once you have done this, then you can go ahead and place the coil back in the engine, making sure that it is secure with the metal clips that it was using.

If your car has a CDI ignition then it will have a different type of wire in it. The best way to find out which one it is to take a pin from one of the wires and stick it into the hole that is in the fuse. If the pin comes out easily then it is most likely an original CDI coil. If it does not come out easily, then you will need to purchase a new CDI coil. If you want to be sure, then you can always get the ignition checked at a car mechanic, who will be able to give you an expert opinion.

Installing a new European car's ignition is not difficult, and the procedures do not change even if the car you are installing it is a different make or model. Just remember to look at the manual carefully and make sure that you follow all of the instructions carefully. It may seem like a simple task, but it is very important to know the proper way to install a car coil.
